Using Concentrates & Keeping It Clean

How to use your WOHW docking station as an e-nail, the best methods for adding concentrates to the ball vape heater itself, and a complete maintenance schedule to keep everything performing at its best.

13

Using Concentrates with Your WOHW

The SS WOHW is primarily a dry herb device, but one of its best features is the ability to switch to concentrates without a separate rig. Your 25mm coil can heat a 25mm quartz banger, turning your docking station into a basic e-nail setup. This section covers both the banger approach and the methods that use the ball vape heater itself.

For a more detailed walkthrough of concentrate techniques, check out our Concentrate Guide on the blog.

The Quartz Banger E-Nail Setup

To dab with your WOHW system, you need a 25mm outer diameter quartz banger. Remove the ball vape heater from the dock and drop the banger into the coil in its place. Set your PID to your preferred dab temperature (typically 450 to 600F depending on the concentrate and personal preference) and let the banger heat up for about 2 minutes.

Load your concentrate into the banger, attach it to your glass piece, cap it, and inhale. Like the wireless ball vape heater, the auto spinner banger begins losing heat as you remove it from the coil, so work with a cadence. Heat retention is good, but we generally recommend 500 to 600F as a solid operating range if you do not have a temp probe to measure accurately inside the banger.

Quartz bangers are available as add-ons and are included in some of our bundle configurations. Our auto spinner banger is a particularly popular option.

Concentrates with the Ball Vape Heater

You do not need a banger to enjoy concentrates with the WOHW. Several methods use the ball vape heater directly, all working in diffuser mode and in some cases injector mode with smaller amounts. The key rule for all of these: make sure the concentrate does not make direct contact with the heater itself. Keep it separated by flower, cotton, or a screen.

🫃 Sandwich Method

Place a small layer of ground flower in the bowl, add your concentrate on top, then cover with another layer of flower. This protects the concentrate from direct heat and allows it to melt into the flower for a combined extraction.

Works well for users who enjoy mixing flower and concentrate across one or several hits. The top layer of flower acts as a buffer and keeps the concentrate contained.

🏔 Flower Topping

Place a small amount of concentrate on top of a loaded bowl of flower without sandwiching it. Quicker and easier than sandwiching. The concentrate melts down into the herb as the heat hits it, and you can monitor it visually a bit better than with the sandwich approach.

Best for users who want the combined effect with less preparation and a clearer view of what is happening in the bowl.

🧹 Vape Cotton Method

Place a small piece of organic vape cotton or hemp fiber in the bowl, then add your concentrate on top of it. The cotton acts as a wick and medium, preventing the concentrate from falling through the screen while allowing airflow.

This method works well when you want a concentrate-only hit without any flower. It is the cleanest approach for pure concentrate sessions in the ball vape.

👑 Hash-Specific Tips

Double up the mesh screens in your bowl, break the hash into small pieces (not fine), and place them on the top screen. For water pieces, a small piece of vape cotton or hemp fiber at the bottom of the bowl with the hash on top prevents dripping. You can also place hash on a small bed of flower for easier handling.

Heat soaking the bowl first is especially recommended for hash since it requires more sustained heat to extract properly compared to flower or most concentrates.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning keeps your SS WOHW tasting great and performing at its best. Ball vapes are among the easiest vaporizers to maintain. The heater itself rarely needs deep cleaning when used with dry herb only. Most of your cleaning time goes into the bowl and glass.

Your Maintenance Schedule

📅 After Every Session
Bowl
Brush the Bowl Use the included brush to sweep out spent herb while the bowl is still warm. This takes 10 seconds and prevents residue from building up into a harder-to-clean layer.
Bowl
Wipe with a Q-tip Run a dry or lightly ISO-dampened Q-tip around the inside of the bowl to pick up any remaining residue. Doing this while warm makes it significantly easier.
Glass
Dump Your Water Empty and replace the water in your glass piece at least daily. Stale water affects flavor. Use distilled water if possible — it prevents calcium deposits from scaling the glass and provides a purer flavor baseline.
📅 Every Few Sessions
Bowl + Glass
ISO Soak Remove the bowl from your glass piece, remove any adapters or screens, and drop the bowl into a container of 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol for 15 to 30 minutes. Pour a generous amount of ISO into your glass piece, cover the openings, and shake gently. Rinse everything thoroughly with warm water and let it dry completely before reassembling.
💡

Dry Faster: A high-RPM air gun makes drying your bowls significantly faster after an ISO soak. Keep one near your station if you clean frequently.

Screen
Replace Screens as Needed Screens are a wear item. When they look clogged, warped, frayed, or discolored beyond what cleaning can fix, swap in a fresh one from your included replacements. Keeping a small supply of spares on hand means you never have to cut a session short.
📅 Monthly or As Needed — Deep Clean
Ruby Balls
Clean the Ruby Balls If you notice flavor degradation over time, residue may have built up on the balls. This is more common with concentrate use or frequent high-temperature sessions, and can be accelerated by vapor backdraft into the heater — which happens when you leave the heater on the bowl without clearing first, or remove the heater before the glass is cleared. To avoid backdraft, use a bowl with a pass-through design or adjust your routine to clear before removing the heater.

To clean: let the heater cool completely, carefully pour the balls into a container, soak in isopropyl alcohol for 30 minutes, swirl gently a few times, rinse thoroughly with warm water followed by a brief clean ISO rinse, then let dry fully before pouring back in. Ruby balls are extremely durable and will not be damaged by this process. The only risks are physical impact (dropping on hard surfaces) or extreme thermal shock (heating then immediately plunging into cold liquid). Source: The Dab Hut Maintenance Guide.
Heater
Clean the Stainless Steel Heater Body Wipe the exterior with an ISO-dampened cloth or Q-tip. The interior does not typically need cleaning with dry herb use only. If needed (after concentrate use or heavy residue), soak the empty housing in ISO for 30 minutes and scrub with a brush. An ultrasonic bath is the fastest and most thorough method — submerge the unit without the wooden handle in a solution of isopropyl alcohol and water and run a cycle. It reaches every crevice without scrubbing and is especially effective for the ruby balls. A high-RPM air gun finishes the drying step quickly.
Coil
Inspect Your Coil Check periodically for signs of wear: exposed wires, fraying on the cable sheath, or new discoloration. Some slight coil glow during initial heat-up in a dark room is normal. If the coil is glowing visibly at operating temperatures or you notice inconsistent heating, it may be time to replace it.

What NOT to Clean with Isopropyl Alcohol

ISO is your best cleaning tool for glass and metal components, but several parts of your WOHW system should never come into contact with it.

🚫
The Wooden Handle Never soak or wipe the wooden handle with isopropyl alcohol. Alcohol breaks down wood fibers and can permanently damage or deform it. If the handle needs cleaning, use a cloth dampened with warm water only.
🚫
The PID Controller and Coil Cable These are electrical components. Keep them completely dry. Wipe the exterior of the PID with a dry cloth only. Never spray or pour any liquid near them.
⚠️
O-Rings and Silicone Parts Brief ISO exposure during a quick wipe is fine, but do not soak O-rings or silicone gaskets in alcohol for extended periods. It can cause them to swell or degrade. Rinse with warm water instead. Apply a small amount of O-ring lubricant, Ed’s Bomb Ass Butter, or beeswax after cleaning to keep them supple and prevent them from cracking over time.
