Coil Types and Why They Matter
The coil is the engine of your ball vape system. It generates all the heat that eventually reaches your herb, and the type of coil you use has a direct impact on performance, temperature requirements, and heat distribution. This is one of the most underrated and least discussed aspects of ball vape setup, and getting it right makes a real difference.
The Core Principle: The SS WOHW V2 performs best when the coil fully covers the ball chamber. When a coil leaves part of the chamber uncovered, those balls stay cooler, leading to uneven extraction, higher required PID temperatures, and inconsistent results. Many users running 600F+ online are simply using mismatched coils. The fix is not cranking the PID. The fix is the right coil. Every coil we sell at The Dab Hut was chosen specifically to provide full or near-full coverage of the SS WOHW V2 ball chamber.
25mm 8-Wrap Barrel Coil — 200W (Crossing Technology)
The coil included with the stock Crossing dock bundle. The bend is designed to fit the Crossing dock channel specifically. Provides solid chamber coverage and heats up fast with 200W output, recovering quickly between sessions.
Two considerations worth knowing. First, the 200W draw can occasionally trip household breakers on circuits shared with other high-draw appliances like space heaters or microwaves. Uncommon, but worth being aware of in older homes with limited circuits. Second, the bent design does not seat quite as flush inside the coil as straight or axial options, which can affect consistency slightly.
25mm 10-Wrap Axial Coil — 150W (B2CVape)
This is our most recommended coil for the SS WOHW V2. Included with the Simple Dock and Bigger Dock bundles, the axial design wraps tightly around the full ball chamber for exceptionally even heat distribution. Because every ball receives heat uniformly, you can run significantly lower PID temperatures than any other coil and still get powerful, consistent extraction.
The 150W rating means zero breaker concerns, and the lower operating temps produce better flavor and more even AVB. If you are building a custom kit through our Build-Your-Own listing, this is the coil we suggest starting with.
Important: The 10-wrap axial coil does NOT fit the Crossing dock. It will bottom out and create an extremely hot docking station. Always match your coil to your dock.
25mm Straight Barrel Coil — 150W (B2CVape)
A straight barrel coil without the bend of the Crossing version. Works with non-Crossing docks and a variety of setups. Same 25mm diameter as the Crossing barrel but at 150W, eliminating the power draw concern. A solid choice for users who want barrel coil heat characteristics without higher wattage.
Short 25mm Axial Coil — 150W (B2CVape)
Originally designed for the V1 titanium heater, this shorter axial coil now serves users who have accessories sized for that coil footprint, and also works with heaters from other brands. It does not provide full coverage of the SS WOHW V2 ball chamber, so PID temperatures will need to run higher to compensate for the uncovered section. Worth knowing if you are upgrading from the original titanium version.
25mm Armored Barrel Coil — 200W (Crossing Technology)
The armored coil wraps the heating element in additional brass and nichrome for a smoother, more flush fit. Sliding the heater in and out becomes easier and more consistent. The tradeoff is that the extra metal layer acts as a slight insulator, requiring higher PID temperatures and longer heat-up and recharge times. It also takes longer to recharge a heater that has lost heat from use. We will update this guide when the armored coil becomes available.
6-Wrap Barrel Coils (Third Party)
You may see 6-wrap barrel coils mentioned in community discussions. These work with the WOHW and some users own and use them. We chose the 8-wrap barrel for better chamber coverage, but a 6-wrap does function. It simply requires higher temperatures to compensate for less coverage and will not perform as evenly as an 8 or 10-wrap option.
Ball Size and Media: What the Differences Mean
The ruby balls inside your SS WOHW are the thermal mass that stores and transfers heat to the air you draw through the device. The size and material of those balls directly affect airflow, draw restriction, flavor, extraction speed, and how the hit feels. Most users never change what comes in the heater, and that is perfectly fine. But if you like to tinker and optimize, this section is for you.
Tighter packing, less airspace, more restricted draw. Air spends more time in contact with the heated surface, which can improve flavor. Some users prefer the draw feel.
Requires added screens inside the chamber to prevent smaller balls from falling through the machined openings. Titanium or stainless steel mesh screens work well.

Troy at 420VapeZone also identified 2.5mm ruby balls as his favorite in this vape, noting quick time-to-first-vapor with the right amount of draw resistance. Our default recommendation for most users. Source: 420VapeZone.
Larger balls mean more space between each one, which translates to more airflow and less draw restriction. Hits feel open and airy with comparable extraction power.
You may notice slightly less vapor density since air moves through faster. Best for users who prefer a wide-open draw with minimal resistance.
Other Ball Media Worth Knowing
Your SS WOHW is not limited to ruby balls. The community has experimented with several other materials, each with a different heat transfer profile and vapor character. Changing media takes just a few minutes — pour them out, pour new ones in.
Want to Experiment? Our Build-Your-Own listing offers different ball size options and ball conversion kits are available as accessories. Swapping media is one of the simplest ways to meaningfully change the character of your device.
Pro Tips from the Community and Our Team
Between forums like Fuck Combustion, review channels like 420VapeZone, Lee at TableTopBong, and Sneaky Pete, and our own customer base, there is a deep pool of real-world knowledge about getting the most out of the SS WOHW. Here are the best tips we have collected, tested, and confirmed.
Develop a Session Cadence
The WOHW is wireless during use, which means the heater loses heat from the moment you lift it off the dock. The ideal flow is heat soak, lift, hit, return. Keep the time the heater spends off the dock to a minimum. Take your hit, put it back immediately, reload your bowl while it recharges, and repeat.
If you let the heater sit on the table between hits it cools down and your next hit will feel lighter. Stainless steel holds heat better than the old titanium version, but respecting the cadence still matters. For back-to-back bowls, 2 to 5 minutes back in the dock is usually enough to return to full power.
Use the One-Scoop Method
Consistency in loading leads to consistency in extraction. Use the included herb scoop every time. One slightly overfilled scoop gives you roughly 0.15 to 0.30g depending on your grind. Dump it in, lightly tamp the edges, and you are ready. This removes guesswork and gives you a repeatable baseline so you can isolate other variables like temperature and draw speed when dialing in.
Vary Your Draw Speed Deliberately
Draw speed is the easiest real-time adjustment you can make and it has a dramatic effect on your hit. A slower, more controlled draw raises effective temperature because the air spends more time absorbing heat from the balls. A fast, hard rip cools the air and produces lighter vapor at the same PID setting, though it can also extract more fully if you have the lung capacity.
If you are used to ripping a bong hard and fast, try slowing down with the WOHW. Many users find a controlled medium-speed pull over 10 to 15 seconds produces the best balance of flavor, density, and extraction.
Heat Soak Your Bowl Before Loading
Place your empty bowl on the injector side of the heater for 10 to 15 seconds before loading your herb. This warms the bowl, adding conduction to the equation and producing a noticeably denser first hit. The effect is especially pronounced with the Titanium Hybrid Matrix Bowl since titanium absorbs and transfers heat quickly. Longer preheats are even more effective, though you will want to dial back temperature slightly to avoid combustion on the first draw.
Use Humidity Packs in Your Storage
Flower moisture has a real impact on vapor quality. Too dry and extraction is harsh and fast with muted flavors. Too moist and extraction is sluggish. Humidity packs from Boveda or Integra Boost maintain your flower in the 55 to 62% range, which is the ideal window for vaporization. If you have not tried this, it is one of the simplest and cheapest upgrades you can make to your overall experience.
Hash and Concentrates in the Bowl
The WOHW works well with hash when you use the right approach. Double up the mesh screens in your bowl, break the hash into small pieces (not fine), and place them on the top screen. For water pieces, a small piece of vape cotton or hemp fiber at the bottom of the bowl with the hash on top works well to prevent dripping. You can also place hash on a small bed of flower for easier handling and a combined extraction. Heat soaking the bowl first is recommended for hash since it requires more sustained heat to extract properly. Source: Recommended Vape Supplies.
Use a Smart Plug
The PID controller has a physical power switch, which makes it fully compatible with smart plugs. Set a schedule or trigger it from your phone so the system is heated and ready when you want it. No more waiting 20 minutes after you decide to have a session. This is one of the most-loved tips among daily WOHW users and barely costs anything to implement.
Never Touch the SET Button on the PID
The SET button accesses the back-end configuration menu on the PID controller. Changing those settings alters how the PID operates and can disrupt temperature control or damage your coils if a setting is changed without understanding its implications. To adjust temperature, use only the up and down arrows and wait a few seconds for the new setting to lock in. The SET button is for service technicians, not daily use. Save Your AVB
Already Vaped Bud still contains active compounds and is fully decarboxylated from the heat of your sessions, which means it is ready for use in edibles, capsules, or tinctures without any additional preparation. Keep a mason jar with a lid near your station and dump your spent bowls into it over time. It is free bonus value from material you have already used.
