Sapphire Insert for the Switch GO
Single-crystal lab-grown sapphire, sized at 14mm for the Switch GO. The flavor-first upgrade, and the single most popular add-on we carry after carb caps and glass. Ships with a free claw grab tool and a set of two 4mm ruby terp pearls.
Why Sapphire Tastes Different
Every insert material has a measurable effect on what reaches your palate. Sapphire’s effect is to get out of the way entirely. The same single-crystal sapphire we carry for the Switch 2, machined to 14mm for the smaller Switch GO chamber.
Where It Ranks Against the Others
Three insert materials are available for the Switch GO. Here is an honest comparison across the metrics that matter.

Switch GO Sapphire Insert FAQ
What buyers ask about sapphire versus quartz, thermal behavior, the included ruby pearls, cleaning, and handling.
Is the sapphire insert actually worth upgrading to from the quartz?
The difference is real, and it is consistently reported by users who tested both inserts on the same device with the same material. The mechanism is chemical inertness: sapphire is entirely non-reactive at all temperatures used for dabbing, so it adds nothing to the vapor and takes nothing away. Quartz is close, it is significantly more inert than titanium, but sapphire is the reference standard for flavor neutrality.
In practice this shows up most with high-terpene, flavor-forward material: live rosin, fresh-press rosin, live resin, sauce. With those concentrates the difference is easiest to detect. If you are primarily running distillate or heavily processed wax, the upgrade is less impactful. If you are paying for fresh-press rosin and want to taste what you paid for, sapphire is the correct insert.
Why does sapphire crack, and how do I avoid it?
Sapphire cracks from thermal shock, a rapid uneven temperature change across the crystal. The common causes: applying a torch directly to the insert, removing it while hot and placing it on a cold surface, or reseating it into the device before it has cooled. Sapphire is hardness 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, but hardness and brittleness are different properties. A very hard material can still fracture under sharp thermal stress.
Prevention is straightforward. Never torch the insert. Use the included claw grab tool for handling at temperature. When removing it after a session, set it on a ceramic or room-temperature surface, not cold metal or glass. For back-to-back sessions, give the device a moment between them. Normal Switch GO use brings heat up and down gradually by design and does not produce the conditions that crack sapphire.
What do the ruby terp pearls do, and do I need to use them?
The pearls spin from the airflow when you draw. As they spin, they redistribute concentrate across the bottom of the insert rather than letting it pool in one spot. The practical effect is more even heat contact, so concentrate vaporizes more fully instead of sitting in a cold center while the edges scorch. The result is more complete vaporization and less leftover puddle. We include two 4mm pearls because the smaller size suits the 14mm insert better than one large pearl, and a pair keeps things moving in the tighter chamber.
They are not strictly required, the insert works without them, but the efficiency difference is noticeable, especially with larger dabs or thicker concentrates that tend to pool. Drop them in before loading and let them work.
What temperature should I run the Switch GO on with the sapphire insert?
Sapphire retains heat longer than quartz, so the effective temperature at the insert surface runs a bit hotter than quartz at the same Switch GO preset. Most users step down one preset from where they ran quartz. If you were happy at 480F on quartz, start at 440F or low 480F on sapphire and adjust from there. The usable range tracks quartz closely, so you are not relearning the device, just nudging cooler.
For flavor-focused sessions with live rosin or high-terpene material, lean on the lower presets (440F or 480F) and run Descent or Valley mode. Valley dips at the start to protect terpenes before rising, which pairs well with sapphire’s neutrality for the most complete flavor. Start cooler than you think you need and work up. Sapphire at the right temperature produces a noticeably smoother, richer draw than quartz pushed hotter to compensate.
How do I clean the sapphire insert without damaging it?
The easiest cleaning window is right after a session while the insert is still warm. Use a cotton swab, dry or lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol, and wipe the inside and bottom. Warm residue on the smooth sapphire surface releases cleanly with minimal pressure. That is the daily routine and it takes about ten seconds.
For deeper cleaning when residue has cooled and hardened, soak the insert in 91% or higher isopropyl for 15 to 30 minutes, then wipe with a soft swab. Skip salt-and-ISO shaking methods meant for glass, mechanical abrasion is unnecessary on sapphire. Do not torch the insert to burn off residue, that is the thermal shock scenario that risks cracking. The surface striations you may notice are normal from the single-crystal milling and do not affect cleaning.
Will this fit my Switch 2 or the original Switch?
No. This insert is 14mm, sized specifically for the Switch GO chamber. The Switch 2 uses a 20mm insert, so you want the 20mm sapphire insert for that device. The original Switch uses a different chamber and heating system entirely and does not accept Switch GO or Switch 2 inserts. If you are unsure which device you have, message us before ordering and we will confirm the right fit.
