Trapper’s Keeper 5 Moodmat

The Print
Scribble Over Cerulean
The ground is bright cerulean blue and nothing on top of it is quiet. Large flat circles in canary yellow and hot magenta anchor the repeat, and every one of them has been gone over with loose black scribble strokes and a few small black speckles, so a clean geometric shape ends up looking worked on. Medium and small solid dots in the same yellow and pink fill the gaps between them. Long horizontal bands of thick black squiggle run across the field like something scrawled with a fat marker, and sets of thin white wavy parallel lines cut through in the other register entirely, fine where the squiggle is heavy.
Then there are the marks, which is where the design earns its keep. Short comma shaped dashes and tick marks in black, yellow, pink and white are scattered densely across the whole field, and they are all tilted along the same slight diagonal, which is what stops a busy pattern from reading as random noise. Everything is drawn with a rough hand made wobble rather than clean vector precision. No outlines, no gradients, no lettering. Four flat colours plus white doing accent work.
The printed field is inset from the edge inside a bare black rubber border, and on this piece that border is proportionally the widest of the three squares, so the artwork occupies less of the face than the five inch measurement suggests. Standard ink throughout, no UV, no reactive application. What you get is a small, loud, well drawn square that works as a coaster, a landing spot by the door, a pad under a jar, or a piece of eighties colour on a shelf that never has to hold anything at all.

Rubber That Already Had a First Life
Moodmats started with scraps from old wetsuits and discarded scuba and surf neoprene, material that was headed straight for a landfill. That became Lava Rubber, and Lava Rubber is what every Moodmat is cut from. The feedstock now comes from wetsuits, gaskets, weatherstripping, seat molds, and other clean scrap that gets collected or donated. More than two tons of it moves through the New Jersey shop every month, gets pressed into sheet stock, then die-cut and screen printed. Keeping that material out of the ground has been the point from day one.
Closed-Cell Neoprene
Closed-cell rubber does not drink up what you spill on it. Water, reclaim, and terp splash sit on the surface instead of soaking in, so a wipe with soapy water puts it back to new.
It Stays Put
The rubber grips whatever it is sitting on and grips whatever you set on top. A rig that would skate across a glass table or a finished desk stops moving the second it lands on a Moodmat.
Tough and Self-Extinguishing
Heat resistant, self-extinguishing, and built out of material that already survived a first life. This is not a printed coaster that curls after a month on the table.

Wipe it down with warm water and a little dish soap, then let it air dry flat. That is the whole routine. Do not run it through a washing machine or a dryer, do not scrub the print with an abrasive pad, and do not rest a lit torch or a glowing-hot banger directly on the surface. Use a stand or a puck for anything still at temperature.

Know Before You Buy
Upcycled Means Variation
The rubber is reclaimed scrap, so base color, speckle, and surface texture shift slightly from sheet to sheet. Two mats of the same design will not be photocopies of each other. That is how you know it is the real material and not virgin stock.
Heat Resistant, Not Heatproof
The rubber is self-extinguishing and handles warm gear without complaint. It is not a torch pad. Park anything still glowing on a proper stand or a quartz puck, not on the print.
Five Inches Is Smaller Than It Photographs
Said once in the intro and worth saying again here, because it is the only way this listing disappoints anybody. A flat product image on a white background gives you no sense of scale at all, and the two larger squares in this family photograph identically. Five inches is a coaster. It suits a drink, a jar, a single small piece, a spot for keys and a lighter, or a wall. It does not suit a rig and a torch.
The Small End of Three Sizes
Three squares share this name and the artwork is different on all three, so moving up a size means changing prints as well as footprint. The eight inch carries a spray paint deep space scene on black and is the everyday working size. The twelve inch carries a mid century atomic pattern on cream and is the one that takes a full setup. This five inch is the one you buy for a corner of the desk, or alongside one of the others.
This Image Came From the Maker
The picture on this page is a flat cutout of the printed face saved from the manufacturer’s product page rather than a photograph of the mats in our hands. The artwork is accurate. The exact base speckle of the rubber is not, since reclaimed stock shifts sheet to sheet. There is no shot of the back and nothing in the frame to judge size against, which on a five inch piece is the detail that matters most. Our own photos are on the list.
