The Print
Planets, Fins and Speed Lines
Everything on this mat is travelling the same way. The long thin streaks and the hairline speed lines all run lower left to upper right on one shared diagonal, and the shapes that hold still are arranged around that motion. Flat circular planets in red, cerulean, mustard and charcoal are scattered across the field at half a dozen sizes, most of them split into two tone halves and freckled with darker speckle. A large red crescent moon sits at the upper left with a blue crescent nested against it. Sharp isosceles triangles in black, red and blue read as fins or as rocket noses depending on where they land.
The rest is small stuff, and there is a great deal of it. Four and six point sparkle stars in blue, red and yellow, jagged starbursts, a few open chevron outlines, elongated mustard parallelogram bars leaning on the same diagonal as the streaks, and a confetti of small black dots that fills in whatever negative space is left. The mustard bars carry a hard black shadow offset behind them, which is the only depth cue in the entire design. Five flat colours, no gradients, no outlines, no lettering anywhere. That restraint is why a pattern this busy stays legible on reclaimed rubber instead of turning to mud, and why it still reads correctly from across a room.
The ground is warm cream ivory, which is the part worth thinking about before you buy. A pale field shows a splash that a black one hides. It wipes clean with warm water and a little dish soap like every Moodmat, but you will see what you spill on it until you do. There is no UV in this print, no reactive ink and no lighting trick. It is a straight full colour screen print on a twelve inch square, and the pattern is the entire argument.

Rubber That Already Had a First Life
Moodmats started with scraps from old wetsuits and discarded scuba and surf neoprene, material that was headed straight for a landfill. That became Lava Rubber, and Lava Rubber is what every Moodmat is cut from. The feedstock now comes from wetsuits, gaskets, weatherstripping, seat molds, and other clean scrap that gets collected or donated. More than two tons of it moves through the New Jersey shop every month, gets pressed into sheet stock, then die-cut and screen printed. Keeping that material out of the ground has been the point from day one.
Closed-Cell Neoprene
Closed-cell rubber does not drink up what you spill on it. Water, reclaim, and terp splash sit on the surface instead of soaking in, so a wipe with soapy water puts it back to new.
It Stays Put
The rubber grips whatever it is sitting on and grips whatever you set on top. A rig that would skate across a glass table or a finished desk stops moving the second it lands on a Moodmat.
Tough and Self-Extinguishing
Heat resistant, self-extinguishing, and built out of material that already survived a first life. This is not a printed coaster that curls after a month on the table.

Wipe it down with warm water and a little dish soap, then let it air dry flat. That is the whole routine. Do not run it through a washing machine or a dryer, do not scrub the print with an abrasive pad, and do not rest a lit torch or a glowing-hot banger directly on the surface. Use a stand or a puck for anything still at temperature.

Know Before You Buy
Upcycled Means Variation
The rubber is reclaimed scrap, so base color, speckle, and surface texture shift slightly from sheet to sheet. Two mats of the same design will not be photocopies of each other. That is how you know it is the real material and not virgin stock.
Heat Resistant, Not Heatproof
The rubber is self-extinguishing and handles warm gear without complaint. It is not a torch pad. Park anything still glowing on a proper stand or a quartz puck, not on the print.
No UV on This One
Standard ink, full colour, no reactive application. A blacklight does nothing to it. Plenty of Moodmats do light up under one, this print is not among them, and we would rather say so up front than have you plug in a lamp and wonder what you did wrong.
Three Squares, Three Different Prints
This name covers three sizes in the catalog, twelve inch, eight inch and five inch, and they are not one artwork scaled up and down. Each square carries its own pattern. This is the mid century atomic one. The eight inch is a spray paint deep space scene on black and the five inch is an eighties Memphis pattern on cerulean blue. Pick by the print as much as by the footprint.
