The Print
A Proof With a Bare Back and a Yellow Sticker
Start with the back, because it is what this piece is. There is nothing printed on it. No maker credit, no studio mark, no artist signature, no number box, no denominator, no live sale line, no copyright line. Bare black rubber. The only marking anywhere on that face is a yellow sticker the shop stuck on it, reading TEST PRINT, then a heads up that these mats may be imperfect, then a parenthetical allowing that they might be extra perfect depending on how you look at things, with the moodmats wordmark in black on the yellow. That sticker is the entire chain of custody on this mat. A proof gets pulled to check a screen, it sits in the shop, and if it leaves the building it leaves one at a time rather than as part of an edition. This one left.
The front is a dense full color psychedelic scene and the top of it is dominated by one face. It is large, round and off white, with two enormous half lidded eyes with pink magenta lids and a small open smiling mouth under them, a heavy single brow, and a magenta beanie pulled down low over the forehead with thick yellow ooze running out from under the brim and down over the face. Periwinkle lobed rays and long yellow drip tendrils radiate out from the head into a red orange sky filled with white four point sparkles, pale blue clouds and a magenta lightning bolt.
Below that the scene is mirrored left and right. Two big teal blimp shaped bodies banded in purple and dark blue float across the lower half, each one carrying a small grinning face with droopy blue capped eyes and a lolling yellow tongue, and each with a tiny orange headed figure clinging to it. Red capped white stemmed mushrooms drift in toward the middle and sprout out of a lime green grassy foreground scattered with white sparkles, pink and grey feathers and green leaves. A pale green white bong stands at the far left edge and the neck and body of a pink electric guitar comes in at the far right, both flanked by yellow flame tendrils. Dead center, 420 sits in blocky black graffiti numerals with a white drop shadow, and STASH UP runs along the bottom edge in black graffiti caps over a blue spray fade. There is no UV in the print. It is standard ink, full color, on a piece that was never meant to leave the shop as part of a run.

Rubber That Already Had a First Life
Moodmats started with scraps from old wetsuits and discarded scuba and surf neoprene, material that was headed straight for a landfill. That became Lava Rubber, and Lava Rubber is what every Moodmat is cut from. The feedstock now comes from wetsuits, gaskets, weatherstripping, seat molds, and other clean scrap that gets collected or donated. More than two tons of it moves through the New Jersey shop every month, gets pressed into sheet stock, then die-cut and screen printed. Keeping that material out of the ground has been the point from day one.
Closed-Cell Neoprene
Closed-cell rubber does not drink up what you spill on it. Water, reclaim, and terp splash sit on the surface instead of soaking in, so a wipe with soapy water puts it back to new.
It Stays Put
The rubber grips whatever it is sitting on and grips whatever you set on top. A rig that would skate across a glass table or a finished desk stops moving the second it lands on a Moodmat.
Tough and Self-Extinguishing
Heat resistant, self-extinguishing, and built out of material that already survived a first life. This is not a printed coaster that curls after a month on the table.

Why It Matters
Runs End. Prints Do Not Come Back.
Moodmats print in runs, and runs end. Once a design is out, it is out. Artist collabs and drop exclusives regularly land in quantities of ten to twenty five pieces, which is why the people who collect these track drops, trade them, and frame the ones they will never put a rig on. If this specific print matters to you, the time to grab it is while it is still on the shelf.
A Proof Never Goes Out With the Run
This piece has no number on it because it was never counted into anything. Numbering happens to editions, and a proof is not an edition. The back confirms it better than any paperwork could: no maker credit, no number box, no denominator, no live sale line, just the yellow sticker the shop applied to say what it was. It never had a store page, it was never offered as part of a release, and the screen it came off has since been dialed in, which means every later pull of this design is a different object than this one. That is the whole provenance and it is the whole argument.
No Reprints
Moodmats does not go back and run a sold-out design again. When this one is gone from our shelf and theirs, the only way to get it is from somebody who already has one.
Worth Hanging
A print this limited does not have to earn its keep under a rig. Plenty of these end up on a wall, in a frame, or stacked with the rest of a collection.

Wipe it down with warm water and a little dish soap, then let it air dry flat. That is the whole routine. Do not run it through a washing machine or a dryer, do not scrub the print with an abrasive pad, and do not rest a lit torch or a glowing-hot banger directly on the surface. Use a stand or a puck for anything still at temperature.

Know Before You Buy
Upcycled Means Variation
The rubber is reclaimed scrap, so base color, speckle, and surface texture shift slightly from sheet to sheet. Two mats of the same design will not be photocopies of each other. That is how you know it is the real material and not virgin stock.
Heat Resistant, Not Heatproof
The rubber is self-extinguishing and handles warm gear without complaint. It is not a torch pad. Park anything still glowing on a proper stand or a quartz puck, not on the print.
Test Print Means Test Print, and We Are Not Dressing It Up
The sticker on the back is the maker’s own blanket warning that a proof may be imperfect. We have not catalogued a specific fault on this one and we are not going to invent one to make the story better, so treat the sticker as what it is: notice that this sheet came off the press while the screen was still being checked. If you want a guaranteed flawless production mat, buy a production mat. If you want the pull that came before the run, this is exactly that.
The Sticker Is Applied, Not Printed
The yellow test print notice on the back is a sticker sitting on the rubber rather than part of the print, and it looks like it would peel. We are leaving it on, because it is the only marking this mat carries and the only documentation of what it is. Peel it and you are holding an anonymous sheet of printed rubber. Whether it stays on once it is yours is your call.
No UV, and the Lettering Reads Better in the Hand
Standard ink only, so a blacklight does nothing to it. Worth knowing about the two pieces of lettering: 420 in the middle and STASH UP along the bottom both sit against busy color and go soft in a flat overhead photograph, and both resolve cleanly when you are looking at the mat itself. They are crisper than the photos make them look.
