Stargate Series SG17 Moodmat
A symmetrical tie dye mandala printed edge to edge on an eight inch square, with ice dye bursts that take over the whole composition under a blacklight. Limited run of 75.
The Print
Six Points, Four Bursts, Two Pictures
In normal light the center runs the piece. A small blue and violet flower sits dead middle, and a six pointed star of pure rainbow spectrum radiates out of it, each point a wedge that runs through the full range of color. Around that star sit concentric bands of red, orange and yellow chevrons, and around those a field of purple, red and black worked into a honeycomb of small cells. Four teal and lime bursts sit at the sides, one on each edge, with the crystalline feathered edge that only comes from ice dyeing. The whole thing is symmetrical on both axes and it runs edge to edge on the square with no border and no lettering anywhere on it.
Under a blacklight it is a different piece. The teal and lime rings light up electric mint and become the brightest thing in the frame. The orange and pink bands fluoresce moderately, holding a middle register. The purple, red and black honeycomb field does not react at all and simply goes away, taking the outer two thirds of the daylight composition with it. What is left is four glowing bursts arranged around a dim center, which is a completely different arrangement than the one that was there a second ago. It is worth owning a lamp for this one specifically.
One thing to understand about how it looks up close. The source is a real piece of dyed cloth, so the crinkle, the fold lines and the weave texture of the original fabric were photographed along with the color and are reproduced in the print. Fine grain, soft boundaries and the occasional streak are the textile showing through, not a fault in the screen printing. On a print made from a drawing that texture would be a defect. Here it is the entire reason the piece looks like dye instead of like a graphic.

Just In Color
Just In Color is the maker credited on this print, and SG17 in the title is their own series number for the piece rather than anything we assigned. What the work itself shows is folded and bound resist dyeing done precisely enough to come out symmetrical on both axes, plus a separate ice dye pass for the four side bursts, which is what gives them that crystalline edge instead of a clean line. Moodmats reproduced the finished cloth rather than a drawing of it.

Rubber That Already Had a First Life
Moodmats started with scraps from old wetsuits and discarded scuba and surf neoprene, material that was headed straight for a landfill. That became Lava Rubber, and Lava Rubber is what every Moodmat is cut from. The feedstock now comes from wetsuits, gaskets, weatherstripping, seat molds, and other clean scrap that gets collected or donated. More than two tons of it moves through the New Jersey shop every month, gets pressed into sheet stock, then die-cut and screen printed. Keeping that material out of the ground has been the point from day one.
Closed-Cell Neoprene
Closed-cell rubber does not drink up what you spill on it. Water, reclaim, and terp splash sit on the surface instead of soaking in, so a wipe with soapy water puts it back to new.
It Stays Put
The rubber grips whatever it is sitting on and grips whatever you set on top. A rig that would skate across a glass table or a finished desk stops moving the second it lands on a Moodmat.
Tough and Self-Extinguishing
Heat resistant, self-extinguishing, and built out of material that already survived a first life. This is not a printed coaster that curls after a month on the table.

Why It Matters
Runs End. Prints Do Not Come Back.
Moodmats print in runs, and runs end. Once a design is out, it is out. Artist collabs and drop exclusives regularly land in quantities of ten to twenty five pieces, which is why the people who collect these track drops, trade them, and frame the ones they will never put a rig on. If this specific print matters to you, the time to grab it is while it is still on the shelf.
Seventy Five in the Run
Seventy five is the run our intake sheet carries for this design. There is no hand inked figure anywhere on the print and no back photo to check it against, so the run size is what we quote and a position in it is not something we will invent. A dyed original is a one off by definition, so what is limited here is the number of times that specific cloth got printed onto rubber. We have two.
No Reprints
Moodmats does not go back and run a sold-out design again. When this one is gone from our shelf and theirs, the only way to get it is from somebody who already has one.
Worth Hanging
A print this limited does not have to earn its keep under a rig. Plenty of these end up on a wall, in a frame, or stacked with the rest of a collection.

Wipe it down with warm water and a little dish soap, then let it air dry flat. That is the whole routine. Do not run it through a washing machine or a dryer, do not scrub the print with an abrasive pad, and do not rest a lit torch or a glowing-hot banger directly on the surface. Use a stand or a puck for anything still at temperature.

Know Before You Buy
Upcycled Means Variation
The rubber is reclaimed scrap, so base color, speckle, and surface texture shift slightly from sheet to sheet. Two mats of the same design will not be photocopies of each other. That is how you know it is the real material and not virgin stock.
Heat Resistant, Not Heatproof
The rubber is self-extinguishing and handles warm gear without complaint. It is not a torch pad. Park anything still glowing on a proper stand or a quartz puck, not on the print.
UV Needs a Blacklight
Reactive ink is not glow in the dark. It will not charge up in daylight and shine at you later. It needs a 365nm or 395nm lamp, and on this design the lamp does more than brighten it, it removes the purple and black areas and leaves a different composition. Without a lamp you have a very good tie dye square.
The Texture Comes From the Cloth
This is a reproduction of a real dyed textile, so the fold lines, the crinkle and the weave of the original fabric print along with the color. Up close you will see soft edges, fine grain and the occasional streak. That is the source material, not a printing flaw, and it is what keeps the piece from looking like a computer drew it.
Two Front Photos, No Back Photo
Both images on this page are the front, one in normal light and one under a blacklight, which on this design is the only honest way to show it. There is no photo of the back, so we make no claim about maker marks or a printed number. The run of 75 comes from our intake sheet.
