The Print
A Lion in the Middle of Everything
The lion is the anchor and it is the calmest thing on the mat. Rendered front-on in soft cream and tan with a small gem set on the brow, it sits inside a circular mandala of concentric bands worked in blue, green, red and orange, with leaves breaking the ring at the edges. A pair of long wings spreads out below the circle in overlapping scalloped rows, and from the point where they meet, a beaded chain drops down to a yin and yang.
The frame around it is where the density lives. Four circled seals sit at the corners, a spiral in the top left, a brushed character top right, and a seed syllable in each of the bottom two. Columns of hand-formed kanji run down both outer edges. Two geometric rosettes flank the upper third, quartz points stand at the mid-sides, and across the top a winged solar disk spreads out under a lotus with a coiled serpent on either side. Along the bottom, ankhs, stepped pyramids, lit candles and small altars, then a final row of symbols across the very bottom edge.
It pulls from several traditions at once and does not try to hide the seams. The effect is closer to a devotional chart than a poster, and it reads completely differently depending on distance. From across a room it is a symmetrical gold and green panel with a lion in the middle. From a foot away it is a hundred separate decisions you can trace one at a time. There is no UV on it and it does not need any.

Credited on this design by name. The approach on this piece is the whole pitch: hand drawn symmetry, dense symbolic vocabulary borrowed across traditions, and an animal at the center holding it together. It suits recycled rubber better than you would expect, because the speckle in the material reads like paper tooth under the colored pencil style.

Rubber That Already Had a First Life
Moodmats started with scraps from old wetsuits and discarded scuba and surf neoprene, material that was headed straight for a landfill. That became Lava Rubber, and Lava Rubber is what every Moodmat is cut from. The feedstock now comes from wetsuits, gaskets, weatherstripping, seat molds, and other clean scrap that gets collected or donated. More than two tons of it moves through the New Jersey shop every month, gets pressed into sheet stock, then die-cut and screen printed. Keeping that material out of the ground has been the point from day one.
Closed-Cell Neoprene
Closed-cell rubber does not drink up what you spill on it. Water, reclaim, and terp splash sit on the surface instead of soaking in, so a wipe with soapy water puts it back to new.
It Stays Put
The rubber grips whatever it is sitting on and grips whatever you set on top. A rig that would skate across a glass table or a finished desk stops moving the second it lands on a Moodmat.
Tough and Self-Extinguishing
Heat resistant, self-extinguishing, and built out of material that already survived a first life. This is not a printed coaster that curls after a month on the table.

Wipe it down with warm water and a little dish soap, then let it air dry flat. That is the whole routine. Do not run it through a washing machine or a dryer, do not scrub the print with an abrasive pad, and do not rest a lit torch or a glowing-hot banger directly on the surface. Use a stand or a puck for anything still at temperature.

Know Before You Buy
Upcycled Means Variation
The rubber is reclaimed scrap, so base color, speckle, and surface texture shift slightly from sheet to sheet. Two mats of the same design will not be photocopies of each other. That is how you know it is the real material and not virgin stock.
Heat Resistant, Not Heatproof
The rubber is self-extinguishing and handles warm gear without complaint. It is not a torch pad. Park anything still glowing on a proper stand or a quartz puck, not on the print.
No UV on This One
Standard ink, full color, no reactive application. A blacklight does nothing to it. Several Moodmats do glow, this print is not one of them, and we would rather say so up front than have you plug in a lamp and wonder.
Fine Linework on a Textured Surface
The rubber has a speckled, slightly rough face, and this design has more small hand drawn detail than almost anything we stock. It comes through, but it sits on texture rather than smooth paper. Up close it reads like a drawing on heavy stock, not like a poster print.
