The Print
Everything Is Coming Out of This Head
The skin is mottled green and blue, laid in with visible pencil strokes rather than flat color, and it has split open across the top. A red brain bulges up out of the crack, drawn with enough lobes and veins to be unpleasant and not quite enough to be medical. One eyeball has left the socket entirely and hangs down over the cheek on a pink stalk, still pointing more or less forward. The other eye stayed home, bloodshot to the corners around a blue iris, and it is doing all the looking for both of them.
Below that the mouth opens into a grin that runs the full width of the face, packed with yellow rotting teeth that do not line up with each other, and a long red tongue rolls out of one side and hangs there. The detail that makes the piece is inside the lower jaw. There is a second small face down in there, with its own eye, tucked among the teeth like a passenger. Nothing on the mat explains it and nothing needs to. It is the kind of idea that comes out of drawing for an hour longer than the drawing required.
The whole thing is colored pencil, and the print kept it. Hatching reads as hatching, layered strokes stay layered, and the grain of the original paper is still visible in the skin, so the surface has a texture that a flat vector print of the same ghoul would not have. The outline is die cut to the head, which includes the small hand shapes flaring off both sides, and it comes out eleven inches wide by eight tall at the widest points. There is no UV in it and no lettering on it. It is a drawing, printed carefully, on a piece of rubber cut to its shape.

Rubber That Already Had a First Life
Moodmats started with scraps from old wetsuits and discarded scuba and surf neoprene, material that was headed straight for a landfill. That became Lava Rubber, and Lava Rubber is what every Moodmat is cut from. The feedstock now comes from wetsuits, gaskets, weatherstripping, seat molds, and other clean scrap that gets collected or donated. More than two tons of it moves through the New Jersey shop every month, gets pressed into sheet stock, then die-cut and screen printed. Keeping that material out of the ground has been the point from day one.
Closed-Cell Neoprene
Closed-cell rubber does not drink up what you spill on it. Water, reclaim, and terp splash sit on the surface instead of soaking in, so a wipe with soapy water puts it back to new.
It Stays Put
The rubber grips whatever it is sitting on and grips whatever you set on top. A rig that would skate across a glass table or a finished desk stops moving the second it lands on a Moodmat.
Tough and Self-Extinguishing
Heat resistant, self-extinguishing, and built out of material that already survived a first life. This is not a printed coaster that curls after a month on the table.

Wipe it down with warm water and a little dish soap, then let it air dry flat. That is the whole routine. Do not run it through a washing machine or a dryer, do not scrub the print with an abrasive pad, and do not rest a lit torch or a glowing-hot banger directly on the surface. Use a stand or a puck for anything still at temperature.

Upcycled Means Variation
The rubber is reclaimed scrap, so base color, speckle, and surface texture shift slightly from sheet to sheet. Two mats of the same design will not be photocopies of each other. That is how you know it is the real material and not virgin stock.
Heat Resistant, Not Heatproof
The rubber is self-extinguishing and handles warm gear without complaint. It is not a torch pad. Park anything still glowing on a proper stand or a quartz puck, not on the print.
No UV on This One
Standard ink, full color, no reactive application anywhere in it. A blacklight does nothing. Several Moodmats in this category do light up and this print is not one of them, and we would rather say so here than have you plug in a lamp and wonder what you did wrong.
Die-Cut Means Irregular Edges
The outline follows the drawing, so you get the bumps of the cracked skull, the dangling eye and the hand shapes off both sides instead of a clean rectangle. The listed eleven by eight is the widest points in each direction and not a uniform footprint, and the fingers on those hand shapes are the narrowest sections of rubber on the piece. Measure your spot if it is tight.
One Photo, and It Is This Exact Piece
The image on this page is the mat we have in hand rather than a manufacturer product shot, so what you see is the real print on the real rubber. There is only the one photo. We do not have a back shot and we do not have a close crop of the pencil texture yet, which is a shame, because the texture is the best thing about it. Both are on our list.
