The Print
A Lime, and a Lion Made of Limes
The big piece is a lime cut straight through the middle and blown up to eight inches. Ten wedges radiating off a pale center, every wedge packed with fine tapered pulp strokes so the whole face has texture rather than flat fill. A cream ring of pith wraps the wedges, then a band of bright rind, then a darker outer skin flecked with tiny white dots for the pores. Four greens doing all the work, and it holds up because the drawing underneath is careful.
The small piece is where it gets good. Six inches, die-cut, and it is a lion’s head assembled entirely out of lime. Slices form the mane, the muzzle is built from pith and rind, and a single amber eye looks out sideways from the middle of it. The handling is completely different from the big round: loose, painterly, visible brush marks, more like a sketch than a screen print. Sam Lyons signs his glass Lyons. His entire body of work is citrus. This is a lion made of limes, and the pun is the artist’s whole identity folded into one 6 inch cutout.
Then you put a blacklight on either one. The pulp goes electric green, the pith and rind ring up in cyan, the outer skin drops to deep blue, and the little pore dots turn into a scatter of light around the edge. The dark separations between the wedges recede and the whole slice reads like it is lit from behind. Both pieces are also printed to glow, so they charge under normal light and keep going after the room goes dark.

Lyons grew up in Vermont and started blowing glass at fifteen. He learned color alongside Joe Peters, and Peters’ honeycomb work pushed him toward the citrus that became his signature. His juicer pieces are what collectors know him for, and they are the reason a lime slice from him is not a random fruit design. It is the thing he has spent a career on, moved off the torch and onto rubber.

Rubber That Already Had a First Life
Moodmats started with scraps from old wetsuits and discarded scuba and surf neoprene, material that was headed straight for a landfill. That became Lava Rubber, and Lava Rubber is what every Moodmat is cut from. The feedstock now comes from wetsuits, gaskets, weatherstripping, seat molds, and other clean scrap that gets collected or donated. More than two tons of it moves through the New Jersey shop every month, gets pressed into sheet stock, then die-cut and screen printed. Keeping that material out of the ground has been the point from day one.
Closed-Cell Neoprene
Closed-cell rubber does not drink up what you spill on it. Water, reclaim, and terp splash sit on the surface instead of soaking in, so a wipe with soapy water puts it back to new.
It Stays Put
The rubber grips whatever it is sitting on and grips whatever you set on top. A rig that would skate across a glass table or a finished desk stops moving the second it lands on a Moodmat.
Tough and Self-Extinguishing
Heat resistant, self-extinguishing, and built out of material that already survived a first life. This is not a printed coaster that curls after a month on the table.

Already Gone Everywhere Else
This was a vault release, not a catalog item. It never sat on a shelf waiting for anyone, and it is sold out at the source. Lyons has done work with Moodmats before and those pieces are gone too, with no restocks and no second pressings. When a glass artist with a following puts out a small rubber run, it moves on the strength of the name and then it is simply over.
A Set, Not a Single
Two coordinated pieces released together, an 8 inch round and a 6 inch die-cut. Sets are harder to keep intact over time than singles are, because they get split up and sold apart. This one is still whole.
No Reprints
Moodmats does not go back and run a sold-out design again. There is no waiting list to join and no restock notification to sign up for.

Lyons is known in glass, not in rubber. The people who collect his torch work are a different crowd than the people who collect mats, and both of them want this one.

Wipe both pieces down with warm water and a little dish soap, then let them air dry flat. That is the whole routine. Do not run them through a washing machine or a dryer, do not scrub the print with an abrasive pad, and do not rest a lit torch or a glowing-hot banger directly on the surface. Use a stand or a puck for anything still at temperature.

Know Before You Buy

The Glow Needs Charging
Glow-in-the-dark pigment stores light and releases it slowly, so it needs a few minutes under a bright lamp or in sunlight before it will do anything in a dark room. It also fades as it discharges rather than staying at full brightness. The UV reaction is separate and is instant under a blacklight.
Upcycled Means Variation
The rubber is reclaimed scrap, so base color, speckle, and surface texture shift from sheet to sheet. That grey grit visible around the print edge is the recycled material, not a defect.
Heat Resistant, Not Heatproof
The rubber is self-extinguishing and handles warm gear without complaint. It is not a torch pad. Park anything still glowing on a proper stand or a quartz puck, not on the print.
