The Print
A Check, a Crosshatch, and a Knight in the Corner
The whole face of the mat is one pattern. A diagonal check runs corner to corner in tan, off white, black and red, sitting over a cream ground that carries its own pale tan diamond blocks underneath. Over the top of that, fine pinstripe hatching crosses at a second angle, thin enough that it reads as texture from a step back and as separate lines when you lean in. There is no focal point and there is not meant to be. It is a textile pattern, printed flat and running off all four edges of the square.
The one interruption sits in the lower left corner. A rectangular label with a thin gold rule around it holds an engraved style illustration: a knight in armour on a rearing horse, lance up in one hand, a pennant streaming off it, drawn with the hatched line work of an old plate engraving rather than as flat cartoon color. BURNBERRY is set beneath the figure in serif capitals. The label is small against the field of pattern and it is the only place the composition breaks its own rhythm.
What makes the print worth talking about is the register. Hairline pinstripes crossing a four color check, plus an engraving with hatched shading inside a boxed rule, is a lot of fine detail to hold on reclaimed rubber, and this one holds it without the lines closing up or the edges spreading. There is no UV in it. It is standard ink, full color, on a straight eight inch square.

Rubber That Already Had a First Life
Moodmats started with scraps from old wetsuits and discarded scuba and surf neoprene, material that was headed straight for a landfill. That became Lava Rubber, and Lava Rubber is what every Moodmat is cut from. The feedstock now comes from wetsuits, gaskets, weatherstripping, seat molds, and other clean scrap that gets collected or donated. More than two tons of it moves through the New Jersey shop every month, gets pressed into sheet stock, then die-cut and screen printed. Keeping that material out of the ground has been the point from day one.
Closed-Cell Neoprene
Closed-cell rubber does not drink up what you spill on it. Water, reclaim, and terp splash sit on the surface instead of soaking in, so a wipe with soapy water puts it back to new.
It Stays Put
The rubber grips whatever it is sitting on and grips whatever you set on top. A rig that would skate across a glass table or a finished desk stops moving the second it lands on a Moodmat.
Tough and Self-Extinguishing
Heat resistant, self-extinguishing, and built out of material that already survived a first life. This is not a printed coaster that curls after a month on the table.

Wipe it down with warm water and a little dish soap, then let it air dry flat. That is the whole routine. Do not run it through a washing machine or a dryer, do not scrub the print with an abrasive pad, and do not rest a lit torch or a glowing-hot banger directly on the surface. Use a stand or a puck for anything still at temperature.

Know Before You Buy
Upcycled Means Variation
The rubber is reclaimed scrap, so base color, speckle, and surface texture shift slightly from sheet to sheet. Two mats of the same design will not be photocopies of each other. That is how you know it is the real material and not virgin stock.
Heat Resistant, Not Heatproof
The rubber is self-extinguishing and handles warm gear without complaint. It is not a torch pad. Park anything still glowing on a proper stand or a quartz puck, not on the print.
No UV on This One
Standard ink, full color, no reactive application. A blacklight does nothing to this print. Several Moodmats do light up under one and this is not among them, and we would rather say so up front than have you plug a lamp in and wonder what went wrong.
Fine Detail Wants a Clean Wipe
Hairline pinstripes are the first thing that disappears under a film of residue, and a pale cream ground shows every mark a dark one hides. Warm water and a little dish soap, no abrasive pad. Treat it the way you would treat a printed shirt rather than a shop rag and the detail stays where it is.
One Photo, Front Only
There is a single image on this page and it is the front of the mat in our hands. We have no photo of the back, so nothing on this page says anything about what is or is not printed there. The rubber underneath is reclaimed scrap, so the base speckle on this piece is its own and will not match anybody else’s.
