The Print
A Persian Rug at Letter Paper Size
The layout is straight out of a real rug and it is followed properly. A central medallion of bright green vines and curling leaves sits in the middle of a black field, symmetrical on both axes, with a floral motif anchored in each of the four corners. Around all of it runs a layered border, three or four bands deep, in neon yellow, hot pink, orange and blue, each band carrying its own repeating geometric figure rather than being a plain stripe. A braided green rope border closes the outer edge, which is the printed stand-in for the woven binding on a real rug. Whoever laid this out knew what they were copying.
What makes it work is the resolution. Nothing on the mat is a smooth curve. Every leaf, every hook in the border, every petal in the corner motifs is built out of visible square steps, exactly the way a rug looks when it is charted for cross-stitch or drawn as a sprite. It is the honest way to draw a woven object, because weaving is a grid too, and it also lets the neon colors sit hard against the black without any blending to muddy them. From across a room it reads as a small oriental rug. From two feet away it reads as pixels.
Then the lighting changes twice. Put a blacklight on it and the neon banding and the green vine work lift straight off the black ground while the black drops out completely, so the rug reads as a floating grid of color. Turn everything off and the glow ink takes over on its own with no lamp needed, which is a different property from the reactive ink and not something most mats in this catalog do. The back is worth a look too. It is printed with the title, the edition line, a date of June 26, 2026, the maker’s own wordmark, and a hand drawn tag in the lower corner that shows up under a lamp along with everything else.

Rubber That Already Had a First Life
Moodmats started with scraps from old wetsuits and discarded scuba and surf neoprene, material that was headed straight for a landfill. That became Lava Rubber, and Lava Rubber is what every Moodmat is cut from. The feedstock now comes from wetsuits, gaskets, weatherstripping, seat molds, and other clean scrap that gets collected or donated. More than two tons of it moves through the New Jersey shop every month, gets pressed into sheet stock, then die-cut and screen printed. Keeping that material out of the ground has been the point from day one.
Closed-Cell Neoprene
Closed-cell rubber does not drink up what you spill on it. Water, reclaim, and terp splash sit on the surface instead of soaking in, so a wipe with soapy water puts it back to new.
It Stays Put
The rubber grips whatever it is sitting on and grips whatever you set on top. A rig that would skate across a glass table or a finished desk stops moving the second it lands on a Moodmat.
Tough and Self-Extinguishing
Heat resistant, self-extinguishing, and built out of material that already survived a first life. This is not a printed coaster that curls after a month on the table.

Why It Matters

Moodmats print in runs, and runs end. Once a design is out, it is out. Artist collabs and drop exclusives regularly land in quantities of ten to twenty five pieces, which is why the people who collect these track drops, trade them, and frame the ones they will never put a rig on. If this specific print matters to you, the time to grab it is while it is still on the shelf.
Two Hundred Twenty Two, and It Is Printed on the Back
Most mats make you take the run size on faith. This one prints it: the back reads the title, then the edition line for 222, then the release date of June 26, 2026. That is a real cap with a real date on it, from a run that is already sold out at the maker. No hand inked position is on the piece, so the count is what we quote and we will not invent a number inside it. Two are on our shelf and there is no way to get more once they are gone.
No Reprints
Moodmats does not go back and run a sold-out design again. When this one is gone from our shelf and theirs, the only way to get it is from somebody who already has one.
Worth Hanging
A print this limited does not have to earn its keep under a rig. Plenty of these end up on a wall, in a frame, or stacked with the rest of a collection.

Wipe it down with warm water and a little dish soap, then let it air dry flat. That is the whole routine. Do not run it through a washing machine or a dryer, do not scrub the print with an abrasive pad, and do not rest a lit torch or a glowing-hot banger directly on the surface. Use a stand or a puck for anything still at temperature.

Know Before You Buy
Upcycled Means Variation
The rubber is reclaimed scrap, so base color, speckle, and surface texture shift slightly from sheet to sheet. Two mats of the same design will not be photocopies of each other. That is how you know it is the real material and not virgin stock.
Heat Resistant, Not Heatproof
The rubber is self-extinguishing and handles warm gear without complaint. It is not a torch pad. Park anything still glowing on a proper stand or a quartz puck, not on the print.
UV and Glow Are Two Different Things
This mat does both, and they behave differently. Reactive ink only lights up while a 365nm or 395nm blacklight is pointed at it and does nothing on its own. Glow ink charges from ordinary light and keeps shining after you switch off, then fades over minutes rather than hours. Expect a strong blacklight effect and a softer, quieter glow in a dark room, not a lamp bright one.
It Is a Mat, Not a Coaster
The maker files this design in their coasters collection and that is misleading. At 8.25 by 11 it is letter paper size, which is a working surface for a rig and a couple of tools rather than something you put a drink on. It is a small mat styled as a rug, and it is closer in footprint to a sheet of paper than to anything you would call a coaster.
Two On Hand, Both the Same
We have two of these rather than the usual one, and neither is numbered, so there is nothing to choose between them. The one that ships is whichever is on top. Reclaimed rubber does shift in base speckle from sheet to sheet, which is more visible on a black ground than on a light one, so expect small differences in the field between any two copies.

Read them as an accurate look at the print rather than at the exact sheet. The back photo is ours and it is a picture of an actual mat in our hands, which is where the edition line and the date come from.
