Why 75 Percent and Not 91

Most people reach for the highest number on the shelf and wonder why it takes four passes. Alcohol concentration is not a “more is better” spec. Here is what is actually happening on the surface.

Dwell Time Does the Work

Dissolving resin is a contact-time problem, not a strength problem. High-proof alcohol evaporates so fast that it leaves the surface before the residue has broken down. The water in a 75% mix slows evaporation down and keeps the solvent working on the spot you put it.

It Lifts Instead of Smearing

A dry-ish wipe pushes softened resin around and leaves a film. A properly wet wipe carries it off the surface and into the cloth. Every sachet in this box is sealed at full saturation, so the wipe you pull out is doing the second job, not the first.

What people ask about concentration, materials, and where these fit next to a proper soak.

Why 75% instead of 91% or 99%?

Because contact time is what dissolves resin, and high-proof alcohol evaporates before it gets that time. The water in a 75% mix slows evaporation, keeps the solvent on the surface longer, and lets it actually break the residue down. It is the same reason 70 to 75 percent is the standard concentration in labs and clinics rather than 99.

If you are doing a full soak in a jar, high-proof isopropyl is fine because the piece is submerged and contact time is not an issue. For a wipe, 75 wins.

Are these safe on quartz, sapphire, and titanium?

Yes, on all three, as long as the part has cooled. Ethyl alcohol dries clean off glass, quartz, sapphire, titanium, and stainless with no film and no flavor carryover. Let a hot insert come down before you touch it, since thermal shock is the real risk to quartz and sapphire, not the alcohol.

Can I use one on the inside of my heating chamber?

Use a swab there, not a wipe. A swab controls exactly how much liquid goes in and reaches the corners of the cup. A wipe carries more solvent than you want near an atomizer or an electrical contact. Our Switch Swabs are made for that job and the two are meant to be used together.

How do these compare to name-brand terp wipes?
